Studio Space, Study Time, & Saying YES
(PART ONE) Springtime has been full of plans, changes, fun family moments, and much much more. May 1st marked the introduction of our BRAND NEW studio space – huzzah! A lot of thought goes into choosing locations. Contracting locations I choose are primarily about supporting a specific niche in wellness(while supporting small businesses!), and maintaining flexibility that allows me to continue learning, sharing, growing, and being involved in events and activities-both personal and professional.
Now choosing a location to put MY name, MY dreams, MY vision, and invest time/money/focus into . . . that’s the sort of choice that while exciting and enjoyable will in my world call for lists on lists on LISTS to mentally organize. Just a few examples of my core considerations are:
- general commute conditions & overall driving/walking/parking convenience for my clients and for myself.
- safety of the city/local community/neighborhood/facility/studio in general as well as safety in evenings + weekends + extreme weather
- atmosphere – because as much as I aim to direct the ambiance where I work, in a larger building or shared space, even in solo commercial and residential spaces . . . the people and things around you play a part in the tone of the space. From background noises, to temperature, to humidity, to smell, to decoration and acoustic flow-it matters to me!
- studio size- as a fan of all things ursine(that means bears for those of us who are informal with our animal friends) I don’t often sympathize with infamous Goldilocks of the ‘Goldilocks And The Three Bears’ story . . . but in this case a too big, or too small sized space to work in is absolutely a deal-breaker. It can feel a bit daunting finding a space that gives me room to work in without feeling Lilliputian and lost in an echo-y, lonely space – but also isn’t so small that it is ultimately too snug for me to stretch out, and move around for optimal leverage at any & every angle around my treatment table.
- Affordability matters, even if most of us really would rather skip talking about money and calculating budgets. Finding available space within my budget means looking for a space that isn’t too expensive, or too cheap(because as much as I love a deal, you get what you pay for in commercial spaces).
While this new space starts to feel like home, there are still lots of changes and improvements planned to make my time in this studio the most productive and joyful time possible. Stay tuned for a ‘Part Two’ post that dives into the expanded offerings a ‘Studio Space‘ enables me to provide. Also a look into my ‘Study Time‘ surrounding a specialized multi-day training course I completed during May, this approach to massage is one that I am excited to incorporate for many treatments and explore many benefits clients may experience. Plus a little personal perspective on ‘Saying Yes’ to boundaries, taking risks, and to changes both personal and professional.
